Nancy Louise Harrell 78, Of Bowling Green, went home to her Lord on the morning of April 27, 2026.
Born on October 15, 1947, in E St. Louis, Illinois Nancy lived a life defined by a love to serve the Lord and her fellow man, service to her country, devotion to family, and quiet strength. She graduated in 1965 from Würzburg American High School, a U.S. Department of Defense Dependents School in Germany, and went on to earn her degree in 1968.
Nancy proudly served her country in the United States Air Force as a communications officer in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and later as a cryptologic officer in the United States Marine Corps. Nancy proudly served during the Vietnamese conflict and her role in communications played an integral part in forward combat operations. Following her military career, she worked with dedication in the Civil service and finally Verizon until her retirement in 2009.
Above all, Nancy was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three sons: Jason (Laura), Samuel (Sonja), Adam and Todd who preceded her in glory. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Kenna, Hannah, Adam, Addison, Briley, Scarlett Michelle and Scarlett Elizabeth, who brought her immense pride and joy. Her loyal dog, Buddy—affectionately known by his call sign “Danger”— and cat Ricky remained a constant and cherished companion.
Nancy found her greatest happiness in the simple, meaningful moments of life. She loved watching her boys play baseball, soccer, or playing guitar in the church and was an avid moviegoer. Her favorite thing was sleepovers with her beautiful granddaughters. She loved reading fictional novels. Mom loved her Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team and cheered them to 2 Stanley Cups championships. Her children fondly remember her reading bedtime tales of Greek mythology about the stars, and constellations, as well as singing “Tiny Bubbles,” a song that became a lasting symbol of her warmth and love. She loved her church family at Oakland Baptist Church and looked forward to every “Howdy, Hug and Handshake” Fabulous Fridays were her favorite times with her expanded church family. She praised her Lord Jesus Christ with a glad heart and lived her faith out loud.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Oakland Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Nancy will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery later this summer. The Staff of Hardy & Son Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with these arrangements.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
See you in Gods kingdom Mom, we love you always.
