In Loving Memory of Jessie Varner February 4, 1949 – June 25, 2026 "You know the coolest thing about living, while doing it, you pay it no attention, but it is the most important part of you! Make the most of it. Share it! Enjoy it!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" — Jessie Varner, a man of profound service, dedication, and deep love for his family, peacefully went Home on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from the Hospice House in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was 77 years old.

Born on Friday, February 4, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jessie was the cherished son of Roseanne Marie (Roberts) and Pvt. Jefferson Washington Varner, Jr. (USMC). He was also blessed with the foundational love and guidance of his foster mother, Flora Harris.

Jessie was a lifelong learner who valued education deeply. He attended the University of Louisville and Sky Tech, and later achieved a massive milestone by earning degrees from Western Kentucky University in the Classes of 2009 and 2011.

Jessie bravely answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army, serving with honor in the Vietnam War and later working as a Military Policeman (MP). His spirit of service extended into every facet of his career and community life. Over the years, he lent his talents to Central State Hospital and built a legacy as an entrepreneur and public servant. He ran Varner's Tax Services from 1979 to 1999. Eventually rising to Postmaster for the United States Postal Service, where he retired on August 1, 2004.

Never one to sit still, Jessie continued to work, lead, and connect with people. He operated J&DV's Mobile Notary Services from 2013 up until his passing in 2026. He shaped young minds as a former substitute teacher for Edmonson and Warren Counties, served his community as a County Commissioner, and gave back through his active volunteer work with the Smith's Grove Lions Club. From February 22, 2022, until June 25, 2026, he also shared his passion for helping people find their perfect properties as a Realtor with United Country Heartland Realty Auction LLC.

Above all his professional achievements, Jessie’s greatest joy was his family. He leaves his rich legacy to his best friend and wife of over 34 years, Diana. His memory will be forever carried on by his children: Rebecca "Becky" Degener (Terry)., Michael Degener, Jesse Varner (Stephanie), Kiasha Varner, Bryan Varner (Jennifer) and step son, Damon Chandler; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Johnny Varner, Robert "Bobby" (Millie), and Aubrey "Bay" Varner; his sisters, Darlene and Odessa Varner and his adorable dog, Zada, and countless other loved ones and friends who meant the world to him.

Jessie was joyfully reunited in eternity with those who went before him: his parents, Roseanne and Jefferson, Varner, Jr.; his foster mom, Flora Harris; his beloved daughter, Jessica Danielle; his step son, S.Sgt Kevin Candler (USAF); his brothers, Jefferson III, Steve, and Freddie; his sisters, Audrey, Carolyn "Dinky", and Rose "ReRe"; his granddaughter, Olivia; his great-grandson, Keanu; and many other cherished relatives.
