"Gene" Henry Eugene Grinstead

Henry Eugene (Gene) Grinstead, 82, passed from this life into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Born on February 27, 1944, Henry lived a life marked by unwavering faith, steadfast love for his family, and a servant's heart toward his community.

Gene faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966. Gene was a purchasing agent for Gordon Smith Air Compressor for 28 years and retired from RC Components in 2011.

His greatest accomplishment, however, was his faithful walk with God. Gene attended Three Forks Church of Christ for 79 years, where he worshiped, served, and quietly demonstrated what it meant to live a Christian life. His love for the Lord shaped every aspect of who he was. He leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue to inspire his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him.

Gene shared a loving marriage of 49 years with his beloved wife, Reta Tinsley Grinstead. Together they built a family grounded in faith, love, and commitment. He was a devoted father to Keith Grinstead (Amy), Kirk Grinstead (Leslie), Kristie Grinstead Lee (Robert), and Kendra Grinstead Meredith (Brian).

He treasured his role as "Papa" to Megan Varner (Griffen), Nakia Duncan (Tieran), Ella Lee, Gavin Grinstead, Hansy Lee, Parker Meredith, Cannon Meredith, Kingston Lee, Asher Lee, Kara Grace Lee, and Hadley Jean. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Jasper Varner. Gene had many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Outside of his family and church, Gene enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was especially proud of his 1968 Camaro, which he loved taking to car shows. Through his shared passion for classic cars, he formed many lasting friendships. He also had a wonderful singing voice and loved entertaining friends and family with karaoke. Whether singing a favorite song, talking cars, or simply sharing stories, Gene had a gift for making people smile and feel at home.

Those who knew Gene will remember his quiet strength, gentle spirit, dependable character, and genuine kindness. He never sought recognition but faithfully lived out his convictions through service, generosity, and love. His greatest desire was for others to know Christ, and his life reflected that commitment every day.

Gene’s family finds comfort in the hope found in Jesus Christ and rejoices in the promise that this goodbye is only temporary. His life was a testimony to the words of the Apostle Paul:

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7

Gene was proceeded in death by his parents, Chester & Kathryn Grinstead and his sister, Serena Probst.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Hospice of Southern Kentucky and the dedicated nurses, physicians, and staff of the 5th Floor at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. Your kindness, exceptional care, and support brought comfort not only to Gene but also to our entire family during his final days. We will always be grateful for the love and dignity you showed him.

Visitation will be held at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 3-7 p.m. and Sunday from 12-2 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Robert Lee and Brandon Eadens officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
