Gary "OZ" Ausbrooks

Gary Wayne Ausbrooks, 59, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2026, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Gary was a proud 23-year Army veteran who took tremendous pride in his military service. His years in the Army were an important part of his life and reflected the dedication, loyalty, and strength that he carried with him throughout the years.

Gary was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need and never hesitate to lend a helping hand. Although he could appear tough on the outside, those who knew him best knew him as a true teddy bear with a big heart.

Gary had a lifelong love of motorcycles and music, especially drumming. He was an amazing drummer and was a member of the band Sixty-Eight Eighty, where he shared his love of music with others. These passions were an important part of who he was and brought him joy throughout his life.

He was a devoted father to his daughter, Taylor Ausbrooks, whom he lovingly called his “baby girl.” He was a source of guidance, support, and unconditional love, and took great pride in the woman she became. Gary also leaves behind his beloved dog, Bullet, whom he considered his second child and loved dearly.

Gary’s influence extended far beyond his immediate family, and he had a meaningful impact on many people throughout his life.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Taylor Ausbrooks (David McGee); his beloved dog, Bullet; his parents, Linda Ausbrooks and James Ausbrooks; and Tina Ausbrooks, Taylor’s mother, with whom he maintained a friendship over the years. He also leaves behind many family members, friends, fellow veterans, and loved ones who will deeply miss him.

He was preceded in death by his older brother, Rick Lloyd Ausbrooks. His maternal aunt, Shirley McGonigal, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Gary will be remembered for his generous spirit, his willingness to help others, his love of music and motorcycles, his pride in his military service, and the lasting impression he made on the people fortunate enough to know him.

Gary will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. 

His funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with visitation from 2-6 p.m. The family will honor his wish to be cremated following the service.
