Listen to Obituary

Edward Lee Moody passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alfreda Moody, and his granddaughter, Stefanie.

He is remembered by his two children, Aza Lee (Simion) Catau and Edward Layne (KC) Moody. He was the beloved Papaw of Andrea (Matt) Trosien, Danielle (John) Segal, James Catau, and Emma Moody, as well as Great-Papaw to Alayna and Jackson Trosien, and Makayla and Grayson Segal.

Ed was a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War era. He was stationed at Fort Benning, GA, where he met the love of his life, Alfreda, at a USO dance. Before he even knew her name, he knew he was going to marry her—and he did, just 42 days later.

He was was a jack of all trades. After the military, he attended barber college and opened a barbershop in Park City. He held many jobs, including serving as the mayor and blacksmith of Wondering Woods, working at Mammoth Cave National Park, a deputy sheriff, and volunteer firefighter.

Ed was an avid painter and an outstanding piper. He was funny, always with a laugh close at hand, and he loved the land he lived on.

He will be watching over the farm’s holler and spring bottom, together again with his wife, Alfreda, and his dogs—Gizmo, Roscoe, Mac 1 and 2, Maggie, and Patches—as well as his horse, Lucky.

Per Ed’s wishes, the family will hold a private service. He will be laid to rest in Hawkins Cemetery in Brownsville. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hardy & Son Funeral Home.
