Dewayne Thompson, age 76, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2026, following complications from heart disease. Though his passing leaves a deep sorrow in the hearts of those who loved him, his family finds comfort in God's promises and the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Dewayne Thompson was born on December 23, 1949, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Jesse Thompson and Cora Lee Cox Thompson. He grew up in Bowling Green, where he developed the values, character, and strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Nellie Hedges, Jessie Thompson, and Jimmy Thompson.

Above all else, Dewayne was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather. He shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Peggy Jordan Thompson. Their life together was built on love, commitment, partnership, and countless cherished memories. Through life's joys and challenges, they remained devoted to one another, creating a family and a lifetime of memories that will forever be treasured.

He was a proud father to their two children, Leslie Hudson (Randy) and Lance Thompson (Katie), who were a constant source of love and pride in his life. He found some of his greatest happiness in being “Granddad” to his four grandchildren, Harrison Hudson, Hattie Hudson, Hayden Hudson, and Cora Thompson. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the time spent with them. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, making memories, or simply being present, he took great joy in watching them grow and being part of their lives. His love for his family was one of his greatest blessings, and the values he instilled in them will continue to guide future generations.

He is also survived by sisters Tina Gunning (Mike) and Melissa Matlock, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Throughout his life, Dewayne was self-employed, dedicating himself to his work and working tirelessly to provide for his family. He understood the value of hard work, perseverance, and personal responsibility. His livelihood was built through his own efforts, determination, and commitment to ensuring his family was cared for. Providing for those he loved was more than a responsibility; it was an expression of his devotion to them. His strong work ethic and dedication were defining parts of who he was, and the life he built stands as a testament to his determination and love for his family.

Dewayne was also committed to serving his community. He was a member of Bristow Christian Church. He also served as a former board member of the Plano Volunteer Fire Department and the BGWC Jaycees. Through his involvement in these organizations, he gave his time and efforts to support his community and contribute to the well-being of others. His willingness to serve reflected the importance he placed on responsibility, fellowship, and helping those around him.

Outside of work and community service, Dewayne enjoyed watching NASCAR, UK basketball, and piddling in his shop. Those who knew him will remember the famous Thompson’s poppy seed chicken casserole and fried pork chops. He had a way of making an impression on those around him, and his presence brought something special to the lives of his family and friends.

As his family reflects on his life, they are grateful for the years God blessed them with him. Although their hearts are broken by his passing, they take comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The family holds close the hope that death is not the end, but the beginning of eternity in the presence of the Lord. His earthly journey has ended, but the love he shared, the family he built, and the memories he created will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew him.

A visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026  at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel.. A celebration of Dewayne's life will be held at 2 p.m. following the visitation then his wishes will be honored by cremation.

Though his family must now say goodbye to the man they loved so dearly, they do so holding fast to their faith, trusting in God's comfort, and giving thanks for the blessing of having shared his life. His legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and service to others will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

May he rest in the peace of his Savior, surrounded by the eternal love of his Heavenly Father, until the day his family is reunited with him in Heaven.
