Charles “Charlie” Meredith, 81, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky on September 15, 2025. Born May 4, 1944, in Edmonson County, Kentucky, to the late Momen and Dorothy Meredith. Charlie lived a life anchored in family, friends, hard work, and quiet excellence.
Charlie married his best friend and lifelong love, Darlene Meredith, and together they walked hand-in-hand for 59 years. He was saved at Shadyland Church of Christ, where he was a member for several years.
For 39 years, Charles worked at Holley, building a life defined by hard work. He later became the proud owner of Meredith’s Collectibles, sharing his love for antiques and collectibles. Charlie was a US Army Veteran and a KY Colonel.
A true legend on the horseshoe courts at state and world levels, Charlie was an avid horseshoe pitcher and an 11-time Kentucky Men’s State Horseshoe Pitching Champion- a record that stands as a testament to his dedication and skill. He was respected not only for his talent, but for his sportsmanship, mentorship, and generosity toward others. He put family above everything and made time for anyone who needed him.
He leaves to honor his memory his loving wife, Darlene; two sons, Michael Meredith (Michelle Hunt) and Ronnie Meredith (Karen), all of Bowling Green; two brothers Bennie Meredith of Bowling Green and Harvey Meredith (Joyce) of Alvaton; and one sister, Patsy Halvorson (Jerry) of Bowling Green, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Momen and Dorothy and sister Brenda Carol Meredith.
Per Charlie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. He wanted to be remembered by the impact he had on the lives of his friends and family- the handshakes on the courts, the encouragement in hard times, the example of a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers and food, memorial contributions may be made to the Kentucky Horseshoe Pitchers Association (KHPA), 34 Bent Tree Lane, Scottsville, KY 42164. The family is deeply appreciative of all who have reached out and touched their lives during this time.
