Barbara King English, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the age of 88.

Barbara was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on February 16, 1937, to Margaret and William King. She grew up in Lexington and graduated from University High in 1954. Barbara attended the University of Kentucky, where she became a proud member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority (Tri Delta) and the Junior League of Lexington. It was during these years that her passion for leadership, empowerment, and community service was created.

In August 1955, Barbara married Charles E. English, and in 1960, they moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to raise their family.

Barbara was widely known for her extensive contributions to the Bowling Green community. She generously volunteered her time and resources to many clubs and civic organizations, including the Jayceettes, the Junior Woman’s Club, Girl Scouts, and the Bowling Green High Quarterback Club. A long-time member of the Ladies’ Literary Club, the oldest club of its kind in Bowling Green, Barbara’s love for the arts was evident throughout her life. She played a key role in the $1.3 million renovation of the Capitol Arts Center and served as President of its Board in 1982. She was also a dedicated supporter of the Kentucky Arts Council.

A devoted member of the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, Barbara served as both a Deacon and an Elder. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was deeply committed to the church’s mission and community.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and William King.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Charles E. English, and their three children, Lisa Hinkle (Tom) of Lexington, Kentucky, Buzz English (Nancy) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and David English of Lexington, Kentucky. She also leaves behind two sisters, Sally Luby (John), and Linda King, and eight grandchildren: Emily Hord, Jane Lyle Ghaelian (John), Spears Hinkle, Anne Archer Hinkle (Farley Stephenson), Rett English, Lucy English, Kelly Meinhardt (Lance), Katie Willey (Alex), and seven great grandchildren.
